The Song - A Masterpiece Born in a Garden. George Harrison composed "Here Comes the Sun" on a beautiful spring day in 1969 while visiting Eric Clapton's estate in Ewhurst, Surrey. After enduring months of grueling business meetings following the death of Beatles manager Brian Epstein in 1967, and through a particularly difficult winter of tensions within the band, Harrison found release in a simple moment of sunshine. The song was recorded at EMI Studios beginning July 7, 1969 - which also happened to be Ringo Starr's 29th birthday.

John Lennon was absent from the sessions, recovering from a car accident in Scotland. Harrison sang lead vocals and played acoustic guitar (a 1968 Gibson J-200), harmonium, Moog synthesizer, and handclaps. McCartney contributed bass and backing vocals, while Starr played drums. "Here Comes the Sun" was one of the first major pop recordings to feature a Moog synthesizer. Combined with orchestral arrangements by producer George Martin, it became a landmark in studio innovation.
