The 1960's Beatles musical band members Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) and John Lennon were photographed at Thompson House, 200 Gray's Inn Road, London on August 11, 1967 by Richard Avedon. The photo session was Commissioned by Beatles management company NEMS Enterprises, Ltd. Under the auspice of their manager Brian Epstein, who would die by an accidental overdose of Carbitol, a sleep aid, on August 29, 1967. Other solo museum exhibitions followed at the Minneapolis Institute of Fine Arts in 1970, the Museum of Modern Art in 1974, The Amon Carter in 1985, and The Whitney Museum in 1994 Avedon however. Did not begin to actively sell his photographs until the Jeffrey Fraenkel gallery on the West Coast began to represent him in 1975. Avedon did not sell photographs prior to this time, and those that he began to sell through the Fraenkel Gallery were in very limited portfolio numbers that each amounted to a dozen or under.
