John Lennon drawings & magazines. A fascinating collection of sketches by a young John Lennon. There are three in red crayon, depicting fictitious characters typical of Lennon's humorous mind. One appears to be smoking a joint of marijuana, whilst on the back of the same piece is a persona featuring an excessively large nose and sad face. The other crayon doodle captures two inversed smiling faces staring at each other.

Additionally there are two pencil drawings that center around Cynthia Lennon. The first features a sketch of Cynthia with a UFO flying above her head and has'Cyn' and John's intials'JL' incorporated into the drawing. John's fascination with UFO's would become a life long interest and culminated in the infamous sighting from his New York apartment on August 23, 1974. Lennon walked out onto his balcony with his assistant Mary Peng and claimed to have seen a saucer fly over the East river. The final doodle again captures Cynthia and some this time displays John's full initials of'JWL'.

The crayon drawings measure 4.5" x 3" and 4" x 3.25" respectively. The pencil pieces are 8.5" x 6" and 5.5" x 3.5".

The condition is mixed with some creasing and irregular shaped edges. Please see all the provided images for an accurate reflection of condition. The drawings are from the late 1950's/early 60's. They originate from the stepson of a Liverpudlian gentleman who befriended John Lennon during his Quarrymen days. Their initial conversation was struck up over a UFO magazine John was reading at the Woolton village fete on July 6th 1957!

A common interest led to a lasting friendship that continued even after John moved to the US. John would give his friend sketches and send him magazines in the post covering subjects such as Science Fiction, Aliens and UFO's.

Also included with the drawings are six of John's personally owned Science Fiction publications that he sent over from the US. This collection comes with a three page handwritten letter of provenance from the original owner's stepson explanation the fascinating history behind the drawings and books.
