John Lennon of the Beatles owned over 40 pairs of wire rimmed eyeglasses, including these iconic, perfectly round frames, that were clearly his favorite. Stage manager Mal Evans also searched for them but even John Lennon was known to visit a flea market stall from time to time near Camden Passage, about 20 miles from London, that's still there today, open only on Wednesdays. A 45 minute telephone interview with Yoko and Sean Lennon was granted back in the 90s with The Eyeglasses Warehouse of Waterville Maine.

In 2009, I was granted permission to listen to the entire interview which greatly served to know exactly what the man actually wore. Many folks thought when John Lennon first started wearing wire rimmed eyeglasses, he was making a fashion statement but th truth is that he "fancied the way the curled, cabled temple stems wrapped around his ears and would not allow the eyeglasses to shift or fall off his face". They are highly sought after by avid Beatles collectors, motorcyclists, race car drivers, horseback riders and I love them for fishing and for picking weeds from my garden and of course while I play my guitar. The were also worn and made famous by Winston Churchill, Mahatma Ghandi, Groucho Marks, Joseph Stalin, Ernest Hemingway and even Whoopie Goldberg, David Letterman, Ozzy Osbourne and Sting, all wear them. These are THE REAL THING as worn by John Lennon. John Lennon never wore these frames. Please be sure to see my last photo which is actually a diagram of what's stamped on the back of the bridge. This variety and by far, the most popular with folks, is known as "Signed Windsor". All of my frames are cleaned, polished and sterilized by boiling in water for several minutes, then I soak them in 100% pure isopropyl alcohol for about an hour, then rinsed with warm water before packing. I now use nitrile gloves when I work or package any frames. All material used for packing has also been sterilized with a microwave. Any plastic wrap was sterilized with 100% pure rubbing alcohol. They measure 4 5/8 inches from hinged edge to hinged edge.

The rims measure 40mm and are considered perfectly round in shape. The bridge is set at 18mm and can be easily widened by any jewelry design center, any outfit that has a goldsmith or most watch repair centers. It requires use of a "pen torch" to pre heat the area before bending. Special note: Notice how the arms that hold out the bridge are 1/2 inch. Most I've seen are only about 1/4 inch so these will stay much cleaner and won't rub up against the forehead or cheeks as easily.

They sit further away from the face. The Temple Stems measure 6.0 inches and are adult size medium and will fit almost anyone of small to medium build. I do have stems available that are shorter or longer but it requires sending them back to me. I've been doing this since 1995, my feedback is flawless as well (for a reason). I also have screws in stock as well.

Drop one of those tiny screws and good luck finding it. They're not easily replaced but I do have them.

I do not charge any labor to my buyers. Should you need a larger pair of stems, I will give a healthy credit for the return of the stems that are in these and charge you only a few dollars because the longer stems have more gold than shorter stems.
